OBITUARY.
THE LATE FRANK BENNETT QUARTERMAINE
.

Great Southern Herald
10 October, 1928

Quite a gloom was cast over the town when it became known that Mr. Frank Quartermaine, an old and much respected native of the district, had passed away in the Katanning Hospital, at the age of 52 years. He had been feeling far from well for several weeks and on Friday evening, September 28, entered the hospital to undergo an operation on the following Monday.

Enquiries on Tuesday elicited the operation was successful and that he was progressing as well as could be expected under the circumstances. On Friday morning he took a turn for the worse, and some time afterwards the end came with tragic suddenness.

Mr Quartermaine was a son of the late Alfred Quartermaine, and some years ago started from scratch on the well-known property “Glendower.” After some years’ battling he obtained a footing and concentrated his efforts on sheep-breeding. The venture proved a success and within a comparatively short time “Glendower” was recognised as one of the leading studs of the district. At the recent Stud Sheep Sales Glendower stock were in great demand and the prices obtained were consistent for every animal offered.

Three sons, David, Cecil and Harold; two daughters, Mrs. W. Crane, and Gertrude, and a widow are left to mourn their sad loss. The funeral took place in the afternoon of Saturday 6 October, the cortege moving from the hospital to deceased’s last resting place in the Anglican portion of the Katanning General Cemetery with the Ven. Archdeacon Burbidge performing the last rites.

The pall-bearers were Messrs. P. C. Wingrove (representing the Great Southern Sheep breeders’ Association), G. L. Hardie, H. Scott, E. S. R. Piesse, A. E. Piesse, A. Thomson, M.L.A., F. M. Gare, F. M. Bowden and A. Radford.
