MOOJEBING

Moojebing’s a meeting place
“A place to talk they say”
Since the Dreamtime it’s been so
And is the same today
Now at this reunion
We’ll meet and talk again
Of friends who have gone away
And those who still remain.

.

All the buildings now have gone
But though the site is bare
I hear a piano playing
And see the hall still there
I hear the children’s laughter
And see them in the school
Reciting now their tables
Learning the dozen rule.

.

I watch Victor on a bike
Come charging down the hill
At the creek the speed’s to great
He’s heading for a spill
Jill rides her bike on the court
Now Stella comes to grief
But I see them both unharmed
And sigh with great relief.

.

John and Lex run down the hill
To join their friends at play
There’ll be races on the road
For it’s School Picnic Day
The diesel leaves the siding
As Jo climbs on the gate
The driver toots as she waves
For both it is a date

.

I come back to the present
And find that much has gone
But this meeting place still lives
While progress marches on.
